The Three Phase GMU MEC Entrepreneurial Step Up Program™

The GMU MEC Step Up Program is organized into three phases as shown below. Highlights of each phase of the overall program are presented below:

The GMU MEC Entrepreneurial Step Up Program™

Phase I : Executive Entrepreneur Program™ (“EEP”)

The Phase I Executive Entrepreneur Program™ (“EEP”) is a three month program with 3 sessions per month which includes two classroom sessions and one meeting per month with an assigned Step Up Executive Mentor. A maximum of 30 participants will be accepted into the EEP. Tuition fee is $3,000 per participant for the Phase I program. Upon successful completion of the Phase I Executive Entrepreneur Program™, class participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. The course qualifies as a Continuing Professional Education Program and upon successful completion, class participants will receive 4.2 CEUs.

The EEP includes a structured Executive Management Education Program which meets for two sessions per month. The class sessions address critical early stage company issues and help companies develop winning strategies and new functional senior entrepreneurial management skills. The program includes lectures, case studies, guest speakers and round table discussions with successful entrepreneurs, venture capital, consultants, and financing firms.

The curriculum for The Phase I Executive Management Education Program emphasizes developing new skills and analyzing case studies that address the challenges of managing and growing early stage companies. The program emphasizes entrepreneurial management skills and covers the following eight core Course Modules in the 12 session program:
  1. Entrepreneurial Management and Leadership
  2. Entrepreneurial Management and Planning Skills
  3. The Business Planning Process

The EEP also includes an Executive Mentor Program whereby an assigned Step Up Program Executive Mentor will meet with each participant monthly. At the start of the program, individual Executive Mentors are assigned to each participant. During the monthly Executive Mentor Program sessions, participants will review company issues, management concerns, identify and develop Key Performance Indicators (“KPI’s”) and work with the executive participant develop monthly KPI progress reporting and action plans.

For the EEP Phase I program, six EEP Executive Mentors will support the program with each EEP Mentor assigned to support five EEP participants.

On a monthly basis, the Step Up Program Director, EEP Instructor, and other selected Step Up Program committee staff will briefly meet with all EEP Mentors in the EEP Instructor/Mentor Review Session. The purpose of the monthly session is to review overall progress and issues, review feedback and recommendations to all participants, identify common areas and issues and secure new EEP Mentor resources as needed. The monthly EEP Instructor/Mentor Review Session provides a valuable forum to track program progress, identify possible areas of improvement and assist in identifying potential company candidates for the Phase II Advanced Executive Entrepreneur Program.

Phase II : The Advanced Executive Entrepreneur Program™ (“EEP”)

Similar to the Phase I program, the Phase II program also includes an EEP Executive Mentor Program whereby each participant will meet individually one session per month with an assigned Executive Mentor. During the monthly session, emphasis will be on addressing specific company plans and issues, with particular emphasis on developing and tracking relevant Key Performance Indicators (“KPIs) for the participant’s company. The EEP Executive Mentors role will be to establish and maintain a consultative relationship with the Phase II participants.
